The Green Faded Jersey

There’s a Green Faded jersey below in Pouleen,
Which oft times went through a hard game,
It is badly worn, it’s colour is green,
By the crest you will find Richmond’s name.

When i first donned that jersey my heart filled with joy,
For we wanted to cross Munsters line,
Though we took a hard rub and we felt a hard boot,
Through that green faded jersey of mine.

There was Broughton at full back, a great one was he,
O,Leary and Bres were our wings;
O’Davern and Jordan sure played inside them;
While Daly and Burke did good things.

Carr, Brasil and Walsh were our front row,
Sharing well with McGrath and Jack Shine;
But we won’t take the rub from Mull, Musa or Stub,
Or that green faded jersey of mine.

We took the first scrum and our weight was full on,
Our scrum-half was great for going through;
O we get him the ball and he ran for the line,
He just tore through the black and the blue.

When a dirty old scrummager tackled him low,
For blood was on his crazy mind;
Although we felt weak, there was no yellow streak,
Up that green coloured jersey of mine.

Gooner Cusack trained them for each game,
To keep fit and keep Richmonds name;
For some call us scamps and more call us tramps,
Still our play and our football is fine
But for our fame we all owe to Gooner Cusack and Lowe,
And that Green Faded Jersey of mine
